When I first saw the work of Christian Patterson I reveled in the rich colors and their echoes of William Eggleston.

I had an email in from Christian earlier today that his first book of photographs - Sound Affects, is now available for sale in the United States and he has a video flip-thru/preview of the book on his website.

The book is a limited edition of 700 copies, and has been for sale in Germany for a few months now. A small number of signed copies are available now from Dashwood Books in New York.

There is an online exhibition of his work on Luminous-Lint.

I've decided that I'll include some of the Photographs of the Day for Luminous-Lint on the blog for you to enjoy. I was in email contact with Joel only today and he mentioned that he is now preparing short texts and then seeking images that fit them. Normally it works the other way round.

A Biographical Index of Daguerreotypists in Canada 1839-1871

There is a new CD book entitled "A Biographical Index of Daguerreotypists in Canada 1839-1871" by Graham W. Garrett. The CD is a PDF file with multiple indexes containing 465 pages of intense research - including examples, biographical information with where advertisements were placed, and finding aids. For anybody with a serious interest in North American Daguerreotypes this will prove a highly useful resource.

How I See Germany - International call for entries

The OMC Gallery for Contemporary Art is calling for entries:

September 26 to November 25 the OMC Gallery will present an international photography exhibition entitled:

HOW I SEE GERMANY.

Therefore photographers worldwide are invited to submit one original photograph, visualizing her/his interpretation of the theme.

The exhibition aims to show case a wide spectrum of approaches and point of views and is segmented in the following categories: people, still life, documentary, city, country, design, culture, abstract, history, contemporary, future, fiction.

The image has not to be taken necessarily in Germany. It can also show an imagination or fantasy of Germany or anything what may symbolize the country for you.

Assuming OMC will receive fascinating and inspiring results OMC intends to not only exhibit the work, but also cooperate with competent partners to publish and market the selected images to the benefit of all selected participants and involved partners.

All entries will be reviewed by Tyler Stallings (Curator and director of the Sweeney Art Gallery of the University of California, Riverside), Alan Griffiths (creator, founder and owner of www.luminous-lint.com, the world’s top website for collectors and connoisseurs of Fine Photography) and Rolf Goellnitz (owner of OMC Gallery for Contemporary Art). The jury decision is binding and is final.

The pleasures of an unexpected email. The history of photography is one of connections and some of these are obvious and others forgotten. This online exhibition of the abstractions of Don Jim (1922-2006) is a forgotten pleasure and shows his 1970s series Urban Artifax. He created these by being a visual treasure seeker searching for symbolic gems embedded into the streets of Los Angeles. One can clearly see the influences of Minor White and Aaron Siskind in this series but it also has the strength to stand alone. An exhibition of the Urban Artifax has just been added to Luminous-Lint.

Special thanks to Margo Jim for bringing this series to my attention.
